Soulrift How to Beat Katan

The first named boss, the Magic Mirror farm, and the classroom for every later slam.

Soulrift Katan Boss Guide

Katan is the first Soulrift boss you should treat as a class, not a skip. helix_works’ lore blurb calls him the Conductor’s volunteer — a real test, not a dummy. The kit is a straight-line dash (similar to Zephyr’s X), shurikens, and a slash you jump rather than Dash. Below 50% the dash chains. Drop: Magic Mirror (faster Dash cooldown; Easy 50% / Hard 100%). This page is the dedicated fight. The rest of the bestiary: named bosses. Shared rules: beat bosses. Difficulty slider: boss difficulty.

Dev-log 1 shows Raiden on this arena. Watch that trailer on the home page or the Raiden guide; do not skip Katan because a friend already farms Cryogen. There is no code that skips the jump slash — codes hub.

Moves you must name out loud

  1. Straight dash. Leave the line. Q is legal if you are late; walking off the line is cheaper. Burning Dash here is how you have no i-frames for the slash.
  2. Shurikens. Small projectiles. Strafe. Melee kits (Zephyr, Sunder) close after they pass; ranged (Cross, Ricochet) keeps shooting.
  3. Jump slash. The floor is the tell. Jump, do not Dash through it. Later bosses reuse “leave the floor.” If you Dash this one, you will Dash Acidux’s slam square too.
  4. Below 50% — chained dash. The classroom becomes a combo. Reset your feet. Reviva exists so one person can eat a chain and stand back up. Do not raise the tick until the chain is boring.

We will not invent HP bars. Watch the bar. Mid-fight is a new fight.

First-clear loop (lowest tick)

Queue from the Boss Fight place, not as a fashion statement in Shuffle (map, Shuffle Mode). Starters are enough: Zephyr or Cross. Finish the in-game tutorial first (getting started, controls).

After the win: turn in Baby Steps / Just Getting Started if they popped (Souls and XP). Equip Magic Mirror the moment it drops. Empty slot 1 after a Katan clear is throwing — accessories.

If you wipe: name the attack. “Dash” is not a name. “I Dashed the jump slash” is a name. Queue the same tick. Two notches up because a friend said Hard is 100% Mirror is how you donate a night for a piece you would have gotten on Easy at 50% anyway. Hard is for the 100% once the chain is automatic.

Party jobs on Katan

Eight players still need a team comp. Support (Reviva or Clockwork) makes the chain-dash a lesson instead of a reset. Melee stays just off the dash line. Ranged stops walking into shuriken funnels. Raiden can classroom here — Gyate / Armada / Grapple — but Grapple into the slash is a clip, not a guide.

Do not bring Prosthetic Arm into a first Katan. You do not own it yet, and −50% HP is the opposite of a classroom.

Magic Mirror, then leave

Farm Katan until Mirror is in a slot, then leave. The next Easy/Hard pieces live on Lazereth (Body Armor, Laser Eye) and Sunix (Corrupted Emblem — skip Prosthetic Arm on 80 HP kits). Full table: accessories, accessory tiers. Sitting on Katan for an hour after you own Mirror is comfort, not a plan. Walkthrough wants Reviva or Clockwork next, not a tenth identical clear.

Hard Katan is a Mirror printer, not a Souls cheat if you wipe. VIP 1.5× (gamepasses) does not change his pattern.

What Katan teaches the other nine

  • Lazereth sky lasers: you already practiced leaving a marked floor.
  • Sunix snipe: Dash is a resource; you learned not to spend it on the jump slash.
  • Acidux slam square: jump ≠ stand inside the red.
  • Cryogen cones: jumpable projectiles, same muscle as shurikens plus jump slash.
  • Stormwalk / Mirage / Ardale / Nebula / Seraphim: 50% still means new moves. You learned that here.

Scripts that auto-kill (auto boss) can bug the boss and skip the lesson. The lesson is the point. Scripts if you insist on the risk label.

When Update 1.6 Reunion adds a name to the select screen, Katan remains the first conductor. Confirm the live list on Soulrift. Then jump the slash one more time before you farm a rumor.
