Soulrift Cryogen Boss Guide

Cryogen is the fifth Soulrift named boss and the most complex ice kit in the game. His lore: a king who ruled with absolute power until his own daughter stabbed him in the back. He still refers to her as “traitor.” The kit mixes projectiles, dashes, AoE attacks, and close-range slashes. Below 50% HP he gains three new attacks including the critical Frost Nova stun window. Drop: Minigen (icicle turret) and Shock Slower (3× i-frames after a hit), each at Easy 25% / Hard 50%. This page is the dedicated fight. Hub: named bosses.

Moves you must name out loud

  1. Icicle Barrage. Cryogen fires a spread of icicles toward you. Jump over them — most are jumpable. Watch for the density of the spread.
  2. Ice Cut. An exclamation mark appears above Cryogen. He disappears and reappears near you for an AoE slash. This is a repositioning tool — when he reappears, you are already in danger. Start moving toward safe ground before the mark clears.
  3. Cone of Icicles. Cryogen disappears and reappears before firing multiple icicles in a cone pattern. This usually repeats 3 or 5 times. You can jump over the icicles or wait out the sequence.
  4. Dash and Slash. Cryogen dashes toward you three times in succession, dealing contact damage on each pass. Move perpendicular to the dash line.

Below 50% — new attacks

When Cryogen drops below half health he gains three new attacks:

  • Giant Ice Sword. Cryogen charges a powerful attack, gathering ice energy before releasing a giant sword in a straight line. The charge is the tell — start moving perpendicular immediately.
  • Ice Slam. Cryogen jumps into the air and slams down, creating ice spikes in an X-shaped pattern around the impact point. Leave the X radius.
  • Frost Nova. Cryogen fires three powerful ice beams in a snowflake-like pattern while sending icicles in every direction. After Frost Nova, Cryogen is stunned for a short duration — this is the primary damage dump window for the fight. Nyx Blood, Lumina cooldowns, and Reviva’s heal all fit here.

First-clear loop

Queue Boss Fight on the lowest tick. The Frost Nova stun window is the most important timing in the fight — watch for it at 50% and plan your burst accordingly. Before 50%, focus on naming Ice Cut repositioning and timing cone dodges.

After the win: Shock Slower is the stronger drop for general play. Minigen is a B-tier chip piece. Shock Slower gives 3× i-frames after any hit, which changes how you approach Acidux and other DoT fights.

Party jobs on Cryogen

Eight players need to recognize the Frost Nova stun window and commit to burst. Before that window, supports should save cooldowns. Melee characters time their engages to avoid the dash-and-slash chain. Reviva prioritizes healing between Ice Cut repositions.

What Cryogen teaches

  • The stun window after Frost Nova is the burst opportunity. Watch for it and commit.
  • Ice Cut repositions the boss, not you. Read the mark before you commit to a position.
  • The stun window is short. Do not waste it repositioning — dump damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Soulrift players.

What does Cryogen drop?

Minigen (icicle turret) and Shock Slower (3× i-frames after a hit). Both at Easy 25% / Hard 50%.

What is the Frost Nova stun window?

After Cryogen fires Frost Nova (three beams in a snowflake pattern plus radial icicles), he is stunned briefly. This is the primary burst opportunity — dump cooldowns here.

How do I dodge Ice Cut?

Ice Cut teleports Cryogen to your position for an AoE slash. The exclamation mark is your signal — start moving before it clears.

Is Cryogen harder than Acidux?

Cryogen has more repositioning and combo patterns. Both are complex fights; Cryogen's cone sequences and dash chains require more timing practice.
