Soulrift Hardmode Guide
Beat normal first, then face harder bosses with new attacks, more HP, doubled drops, and exclusive mechanics.
Hardmode is Soulrift’s difficulty tier above normal for each named boss. You unlock Hardmode by defeating the boss at least once on normal difficulty. This page explains how Hardmode works, what changes, and how to approach it. For boss-specific strategies, see Named Bosses. For difficulty scaling, see Boss Difficulty.
How to unlock Hardmode
Hardmode becomes available for a boss once you have beaten that boss at least one time on normal mode. The unlock is permanent — once unlocked, Hardmode stays available for that boss on your account.
To access Hardmode:
- Enter a lobby and select your character
- Choose the boss you want to fight
- Select Hardmode on the difficulty selector (if available for that boss)
What changes in Hardmode
Boss behavior
- New attacks: Most bosses gain additional attack patterns exclusive to Hardmode
- Faster attacks: Some normal attacks may be faster or have reduced telegraph time
- Modified phases: Bosses at 50% HP may behave differently
Health scaling
- Bosses have more HP in Hardmode compared to normal
- Health scales with player count as well
Rewards
- Souls and EXP are doubled in Hardmode
- Drop rates are doubled: Accessories that drop at 25% normal now drop at 50% Hardmode
- This makes Hardmode more efficient for farming once you can consistently clear it
Accessory drop rates comparison
| Accessory Source | Normal Drop Rate | Hardmode Drop Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Katan (Magic Mirror) | 50% | 100% |
| Lazereth (Laser Eye / Body Armor) | 25% | 50% |
| Most other bosses | 20-25% | 40-50% |
Hardmode-exclusive mechanics
Support character solo bonus
Support characters (Reviva, Clockwork) deal 1.5x damage in Hardmode when played solo. This only affects the normal moveset, not Last Stand abilities.
Hardmode difficulty notes
From Update 1.5 Cosmic Expansion:
- Mirage and Stormwalk difficulty ratings were swapped (Mirage is now harder than Stormwalk in Hardmode)
- Sunix received a health buff: 2600 HP → 2900 HP
- All accessories with 33% drop rate were nerfed to 25%, but drop rates are doubled in Hardmode
- Other players cannot join Hardmode lobbies if they haven’t beaten the normal version of that boss
Is Hardmode worth it?
When to start Hardmode
- When you can consistently clear normal without wiping
- When you have Reviva or Clockwork for support
- When you want to farm accessories efficiently (double drop rates)
When to stick with normal
- When you are still learning boss patterns
- When you are practicing a new character
- When you just need a quick clear for quests
Hardmode farming strategy
The doubled drop rates in Hardmode make it more efficient for accessory farming once you can clear consistently:
- Learn on normal until patterns are automatic
- Transition to Hardmode starting with earlier bosses (Katan, Lazereth)
- Build accessory slots with easier Hardmode bosses first
- Progress to harder bosses (Mirage, Ardale, Nebula, Seraphim) as your skill grows
Hardmode and accessories
Accessories are one of the main reasons to farm Hardmode:
- Magic Mirror (Katan): 100% drop in Hardmode — farm here first
- Divine Crown (Seraphim): 40% drop in Hardmode — worth the grind for cooldown reduction
- All accessories: Double drop rate makes Hardmode the efficient farming mode
See Accessories for the full list.
Hardmode and quests
Some quests may require specific difficulty. Check the quest log:
- If a quest specifies normal mode, complete it there first
- If no difficulty is specified, Hardmode should count toward progress
- Use the minimum allowed difficulty for quest clears
Tips for Hardmode success
- Dash is essential — harder telegraphs mean faster reaction needed
- Accessories matter more — Magic Mirror and survivability pieces help significantly
- Team composition — Reviva and Clockwork rise in value
- Don’t force it — normal clears still progress your account
- Practice in stages — master one boss on Hardmode before moving to the next
