Soulrift Game Mechanics Guide

This page documents Soulrift’s core game systems — the mechanics that apply to every character, every boss, and every fight. For specific boss strategies, see Named Bosses. For character kits, see Players.

Core Systems

Movement

All characters can:

  • Run: Hold to move at the character’s base walkspeed
  • Jump: Standard jump, height varies slightly by character
  • Dash: Press Q (or assigned key) to dash — this is the core evasion mechanic

Each character has slightly different walkspeed. Dash is the most important movement skill — learn it first. See Controls for keybinds.

Combat

Combat in Soulrift consists of:

  • M1 attacks: Your basic attack, chains in a combo
  • Abilities (Z/X/C): Three character-specific abilities with cooldowns
  • Dodging: Dash to avoid boss attacks
  • Boss telegraphs: Red squares, exclamation marks, and floor indicators that warn of incoming attacks

Inventory

Access your inventory in the lobby via the chest icon on the left of the screen. The inventory contains:

  • All unlocked characters
  • All equipped accessories
  • Emotes

Skins are accessible via the “Skins” button when selecting a character.

Economy

Souls

Souls are Soulrift’s primary currency. You use them to:

  • Purchase characters from the shop
  • Buy accessories from the shop
  • The fastest way to earn Souls is defeating bosses

How to earn Souls:

  • Defeat bosses (more on higher difficulty)
  • Complete quests
  • Use the Gift Card accessory (+15% Soul gain)
  • VIP gamepass (1.5x multiplier)

See Souls and XP for the full economy guide.

Ranks

Ranks are awarded at the end of each run based on performance:

RankRequirementNotes
SHighest performanceBest Souls/EXP gain
AVery high performance
BGood performance
CAverage performance
DPoor performanceMinimal rewards

Ranks are correlated with the amount of Souls gained during the run. Better performance = more Souls.

EXP and Leveling

EXP is earned alongside Souls. Your level increases as EXP accumulates. Higher levels unlock:

  • Accessory slots (at levels 10, 20, 40, 75)
  • Profile display

From Update 1.5, the player list shows level instead of Souls, ordered by level.

Game Features

The Shop

Located in the lobby. You can buy:

  • Characters: Reviva, Sunder, Ricochet, Lumina, Raiden
  • Accessories: Badges, Chronicle, Gift Card, Metal Helm, Accessory of Doom and Despair
  • Emotes: Cosmetic animations
  • Skins: Character appearances
  • Gamepasses: VIP and EXP multipliers

The Guide

Accessible via the Book button in the lobby. Contains:

  • Relevant info about each character
  • Boss information
  • Other game-related information

The Almanac

Only accessible during intermission lobbies (between rounds). Located near the tree in the lobby. Contains:

  • Lore entries for each character
  • Boss lore and backstory
  • World-building information

This is where you read the deep lore of Soulrift.

Emotes

Emotes are cosmetic animations you can perform. To use:

  1. Equip emotes in your inventory
  2. Press G in-game
  3. Select your emote

Progression Systems

Character Unlocks

Two paths to unlock characters:

  1. Shop purchase: Spend Souls (Reviva 250, Sunder 1000, etc.)
  2. Quest completion: Complete specific boss fights (Clockwork, Crystal, Nyx, Scar)

See Unlock Characters for the full guide.

Accessory Slots

You have 5 accessory slots. Slots unlock at:

  • Slot 1: Start
  • Slot 2: Level 10
  • Slot 3: Level 20
  • Slot 4: Level 40
  • Slot 5: Level 75

Fill these strategically. See Accessories for tier list.

Difficulty System

Set difficulty on the loading screen before each boss fight:

  • Easy/Normal: Lower boss HP, slower attacks, normal rewards
  • Hard: Higher boss HP, new attacks, doubled rewards

See Boss Difficulty for the full guide.

Game Modes

Boss Fight (Main Mode)

The primary game mode. Queue solo or with up to 8 players to fight named bosses.

Shuffle Mode

A separate place where character selection is randomized. Good for:

  • Breaking habit of always using the same character
  • Learning new kits
  • Challenge runs

See Shuffle Mode for details.

Last Stand Mechanic

When you are the last player alive and receive a fatal blow, you enter Last Stand:

  • Survive with 1 HP
  • Gain a more powerful moveset
  • Have a chance to clutch the fight

Some character-boss combinations have Special Last Stands with unique rewards. See Last Stand and Special Last Stand Interactions.

Update 1.5 Changes

Cosmic Expansion introduced:

  • Support solo bonus: 1.5x damage in Hardmode when played solo
  • Level-based player list: Shows level instead of Souls
  • New modifiers: “No Accessories” (1.1x souls/EXP) and “Solo Support” (1.25x souls/EXP)
  • Dash cooldown indicator: Now displays on your character

Play: Soulrift on Roblox.
